Action Comics #1001
Superman has traditionally starred in at least two comics - the comic that bears his name, and his first home in Action Comics.
Both are under the control of writer Brian Michael Bendis now, and he seems to be going back to basics.
In his original run in Action Comics a mere 70 years ago, the Man of Steel didn't fight big monsters or super-villains. Instead, he dealt with small-time criminals, wife abusers and hoods.
So here the focus is a bit more on Clark Kent and the mystery behind a series of arsons in Metropolis - fires that one young witness has pinned on Superman.
The series is fast and clever with some good character moments - and we meet a brand new villain, too.
The art is by Patrick Gleason with colors by Alejandro Sanchez, and it's striking work, filled with characters who exhibit emotions and personalities.
So it's a strong start for this "new" series. So far, so good!
