Starting up again after the (not yet published) events of the Secret War, the Guardians of the Galaxy has a new look, as Star-Lord (Peter Quill) is tackling his career as the newly-elected Emperor of the planet Spartax (replacing his father).
His former teammates (which now includes Kitty Pryde, Venom and the Thing) stop by for a visit just in time for all hell to break loose, as a recent destructive event comes back to haunt them.
During the Black Vortex mini-series (if I recall correctly), the home world of the Kree Empire was destroyed - and Hala, the last of the Accusers (or is she?) has arrived to get her revenge on the Guardians.
It was a good move, because the new status quo of the series wasn't really working for me - and this throws it all into chaos.
I should have had more faith in writer Brian Michael Bendis, and I'm certainly enjoying the artwork by Valerio Schiti, with lots of cosmic-scale events and double-page splashes (and I really like this version of the Thing).
So, with a powerful opponent and lots of action on the plate, it feels like this series is getting back on course.
Grade: B+
