A young man feels trapped by circumstances and makes a deal with a devilish figure, only to find himself engulfed in fire and given the appearance of a demon.
Of course, I'm not talking about Ghost Rider here - this is all about one of DC's "New Age of Heroes," Brimstone!
But you don't actually learn much of the character in this issue - instead, it's given over to introducing the downtrodden central character, Joe Chamberlain, a young man with no job, stuck in a town that's dying because that all the jobs (and industry) have left.
He has family issues, the local police officer doesn't like him, and a certain mysterious gentleman is closing in on him with plans to make Joe an offer he can't - but should - refuse.
It all feels like well-trod ground, though we trust that the creative team - storytellers Philip Tan and Justin Jordan - are just getting started here.
The art is very good, but so far, the concept's mighty thin.
