Wolverine and the X-Men #42

So here's the final issue of this series - but of course, next month brings the return of the title - and a new issue #1 of Wolverine and the X-Men.

I can't remember another title that's been more up-and-down in terms of enjoyment. It's had some stories that were a lot of fun, and others that were just silly.

This one leans more toward the latter, as it takes us into the future to see such events as: the graduation of the Jean Grey school's most untamable student; the ultimate fate of the school; and a peek at stories to come.

The story is by Jason Aaron, and it has its good moments and a fair sprinkling of humor (which has been the book's most positive aspect) - but it falls short of actually providing a compelling story.

The art is by a small army of artists - eight in all - and the results are mixed. Some are outstanding, while others are a bit flat.

The series continues to be promising, and one of the better comics in the X-Men family - but I do wish for a bit more consistency.

Grade: B+
